Area Attractions

From discovering historic moments from the past to gaining a feel for the local music vibe, there is plenty to see and do in Downtown Alton.

Experience the past as you walk with Lincoln along the Lincoln & Civil War Legacy Trail.  Find your own connections to the city at the Hayner Library Local History & Genealogy Library.  Take a stroll along the Mississippi River through Riverfront Park, a great spot for summer concerts at the amphitheater or witnessing the power of the river with markers for the Flood of ’93.  Inspired by the river, the influence of art exudes through every corner of downtown from the murals on the sides of buildings to the local artwork in the gallery at the Jacoby Arts Center.  And as the sun begins to fade, local pubs provide the venue for musicians on the brink of greatness.  Into the wee morning hours, casino gaming and off track betting add excitement for those feeling a little lucky.  Make your first stop downtown the Alton Visitor Center for the most information on what to see and do.
